John Mayer is a great guitar player. Matter of fact, he could be called as one of the legends now. However, many people don’t like him because of the fact that he’s mainstream and he plays pop music. That is very much understandable. If John Mayer didn’t play pop music, he’ll end up like one of the millions of good blues guitar players and singers, on the side, lurking without attention; no one knows them until they die. Not getting the acknowledgment and the exposure they deserve. Good thing he was smart enough to ride the mainstream wave and by doing so, he has released the blues and spoon fed it to mainstream listeners. Now these mainstream people know and realize that blues is one of those real music. He has kept the blues alive.

So haters, don’t judge him if he’s mainstream. Let us celebrate him as it is, he’s just as good as any other blues guitar players and he deserves recognition. You can gladly say that he’s an SRV rip – off or a Hendrix rip –off, that’s all good when in fact; he is the product of these musicians. If not for them, there would be no John Mayer at all.
