Learn Flamenco Guitar

There are many people who wish to learn how to strum chords so they can play along to their favorite songs on guitar and plenty of lessons online to show them how to do that but the situation is quite different when it comes to learning how to play flamenco guitar. It’s a more specialized way of playing guitar and as such there simply aren’t the same number of resources available online to learn from.

One of the main problems is that flamenco guitar is a genuine art form and many of the playing techniques required to perform the repertoire take many years to master. So either you were lucky enough to grow up in Spain and started learning when you were 5 years old or else you have an even rarer thing – access to a good quality flamenco guitarist in your local area who understands how to teach this beautiful style of guitar to beginners.

You don’t need to buy a flamenco guitar, although such guitar designs do exist and come at a premium price. To get going just buy a standard classical guitar with nylon strings and only buy a more expensive instrument when your playing improves and really deserves it.

There is an easier but closely related guitar style generally referred to as Spanish guitar and there you’ll find easier pieces to get started with. I would recommend that you take your time and try to find the easiest material possible even if was designed with children in mind, this is the easiest way to learn flamenco guitar.

Be sure to check out two of my favorite flamenco guitarists – Paco Pena, and Paco de Lucia. They are both awesome and unbelievably talented.
