Hisatake Shibuya sold custom replacement guitar parts for different guitar manufacturers in 1975. The name ESP was acronym for Electric Sound Products and eventually, he started making his own JapaneMove to Trashse guitars as well. His guitars were released that time in Japan only and were called ESP and Navigator brands. ESP replacement parts were later introduced in the United States in 1983 and musicians recognized his stuff as quality pars. Word travelled to musicians in New York and he eventually became the most popular custom instrument maker that time. This popularity made it possible for him to create the 400 series, the first ESP guitars in the United States.
